Bernkastel, Germany

by, Jan Ross

My husband didn’t make it for our last walking tour of scenic little German towns so I was finally free to indulge in one of my favorite activities – shopping! He is really very good and patient when I want to shop but it’s much easier when he is not around waiting patiently. So, after the walking tour, Traci and I hit the little shops in town. There are plenty of lovely things to buy but Bernkastel seemed to have more beautiful table linens than any place we had been so far. They were very reasonably priced and we found them at several stores, so if you are looking for gorgeous lace or holiday table linens, look here. We also found beautiful and unique scarves as well.

This was our last full day on the ship and we had our usual fabulous dinner that night.

The menu was posted every night. Makes your mouth water, now doesn’t it?

Every night, we had a choice of meat, fish or a vegetarian entree. And, of course, an appetizer, soup and dessert! And don’t forget the wines with lunch and dinner as well.

Another wonderful dessert!

I can’t say enough about the wonderful crew on the MS AmaLegro. From Captain Achim, who was competent, approachable and friendly to our wonderful waiters who took care to make sure every meal was a delight to our our steward who tidied our room every day and turned down the covers every night and placed a chocolate on our pillows, every single one was wonderful. But our group ended up settling at one table every night and had the friendly and gregarious Miroslav as our waiter. He could not have been better. On the last night, he had some tricks to share with us at the table and, taking two forks, two toothpicks and a salt shaker, he manage to make them balance.

Yeah. We never figured it out either!

We spent the evening packing and getting ready to disembark the next day. We were sad to leave our lovely boat where we had so many adventures, but we were headed to Paris for the last three days of our adventure, so how could we possibly complain?
